INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
Indian Head Massage (Champissage) is a simple, safe and highly beneficial therapy which has been popular throughout the Indian sub-continent for over a thousand years. This massage can be traced back some 5,000 years in the ancient medical texts of Persia, Japan, Egypt, China and India. The Greeks and Romans also mention it in their works as a treatment for disease and the preservation of good health.
By stimulating scalp circulation Champissage relaxes the scalp and tones up the subcutaneous muscles, relieving eye strain and headaches and improving concentration It also eases muscle tension by stretching and mobilising the tissues of the neck and shoulders. It encourages a good blood supply, nourishes hair roots, helps improve conditions such as dandruff and excessive greasiness, strengthens hair and promotes a healthy appearance and can ease headaches, migraine and mild neuralgia.
Massage of the face encourages a good blood supply to promote a healthy skin, and tone the facial muscles, thus helping to reduce the formation of wrinkles. Stimulating the facial muscles through massage is an excellent treatment to assist lymphatic drainage of the face and thus ease the symptoms of sinus imbalance. It can also help to reduce the perpetual frown and the dreaded bags under the eyes.
The head, neck and shoulders - all energy centres where tension is most likely to accumulate - are gently and firmly massaged to produce a feeling of peace and tranquility.
The method used has been adapted from the Indian tradition. Its major benefit is that it is a fast and effective technique for de-stressing and calming, easing tight muscles, releasing shoulder tension and improving posture. It will often release inner tension, and many clients fall asleep whilst the treatment is in progress.
